The story of Giuliano Mazzuoli begins in the early 1970s when he took
over the company that produced notebooks and address book inserts
for the florentine leather trade that his father Angelo founded in
Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (1953) just outside of Florence.
Mazzuoli modernized production and applied to his products ideas
that he took from everyday objects . The ideas, starting with a
line of products utilizing common designs, captured the imagination
of people. In 1993 the special calendar diaries with the hard yet
flexible covers with plenty of space to record notes (the Stifflexible)
were created and notebooks with lines that were slanted or curved
instead of straight followed. These innovative objects captured
the attention of prestigious clients like the Modern Museum of Art
(MoMA) of New York.In the year 2000 Mazzuoli began to produce fine
writing instruments. These are not common pens, but they are objects
inspired by the bicycle tools he remembered from his grandfather's
workshop. The pens are workshop tools that actually write.
